A lovely seasonal collaboration with the wonderful Catherine Hatt.
Catherine Hatt (aka Camel Sweetcorn) has written and co-written songs for children's theatre companies and is currently recording two albums of songs written over the last 6 years, which will be available next year!
I very much enjoyed creating this song. The lead vocal (with Catherine's wonderfully sweet voice) was captured perfectly (in two takes) leaving us the rest of the afternoon to record subtle textures and vocal layers to arrange around it. It's a very sparse song, almost a capella, or perhaps 'poem song' would be fitting: The lead vocal carries the story and creates the imagery, with the other textures punctuating them. We spent a while refining, adding and removing the other layers that work behind Catherine's voice.
I really enjoyed this way of working and I think this is a lovely tribute to the October weather, or as Catherine put it: "October wrote this song, not me!"
